“Not every one of our students will become a great mathematician, but each of them will have practical skills and knowledge that will allow them to easily interact with society and solve various life problems. You ask me — how? The answer is simple: they will learn to find patterns in the world around them, which is a key skill of a successful person.” © Mrs. Shumskaya, founder.
Online Math Center (OMC) is an online school that was founded in 2020 by a qualified methodologist Mrs. Shumskaya, who has come a long way in order to create a program that will transform the way kids learn and appreciate math. Over the past 35 years, Mrs. Shumskaya has repeatedly demonstrated the highest level of skill and professionalism while actively teaching and conducting research in her field.
Despite being the author of educational programs for general and specialized schools with advanced learning of mathematics, Mrs. Shumskaya is a Member of the State Examination Commission and an expert of professional attestation commissions.
Let’s explore the OMC’s approach and the main strengths of our middle and high school math programs.
1. An individualized approach to each student
One of the most important aspects of our programs is that we seek to serve each student holistically. We ensure that each child is placed in an environment best suited to their academic level. Free diagnostic tests help us discover each student’s math experience and the specific gaps in their knowledge. These tests help determine the best level for a student to begin within the OMC curriculum.
At OMC students become enthusiastic about learning math as they are studying at their own comfortable level regardless of their age and school grade.
2. Interactive lessons
At OMC the class size is an average of 5 students with an expert teacher leading an interactive lesson. Our program provides students with the chance to put their new math skills to use through activities and challenges.
All classes are accompanied by interactive activities: crossword puzzles, pair matching games, bingo games, jigsaw puzzles, memory games, and many more. The tutor might immerse the students in the history of mathematics, or talk to them about the great minds of mathematics. The instructor can also implement mathematical games and competitions for the class.
At OMC we expect each learner to work on their individual mindset and strive for self-improvement. We place great importance on self-learning, encouraging our students to think, read worksheets, and regularly do home assignments on their own.
We do believe that student achievement rises significantly when teachers regularly assign homework and students conscientiously complete it, forming a solid foundational knowledge as students progress to higher grades.
4. Professional tutors
All our teachers have professional backgrounds in mathematics and are highly passionate about the subject. They go through extensive training to teach according to our specific methodology and curriculum.
We strongly believe that personal relationships are fundamental to student success — the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well.
Ultimately, the purpose of our math program is not to prepare future mathematicians and analysts. And not just to accumulate the sum of knowledge. The main benefit is in the qualities acquired in the learning process. Every single moment of our life requires knowledge of math. But most of the students are not taking math seriously in their middle and high schools. We want our students to love mathematics and understand its importance in their everyday lives.
In our approach to learning, we aim to be creative, bold, free-thinking, and rigorous, just like our students. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or browse our math programs to learn more about our methodology and to register for a free trial lesson.
