SAT Dates 2023 & 2024: Which SAT Date Is Best For You?

The standardized college admission test (SAT) is a vital component of any student’s college application process in the United States. The test, offered seven times each year, grants students the opportunity to show their academic abilities. Every year, The College Board, the organ responsible for administering the examination, sets the dates of the tests and the accompanying deadlines.

Students planning to take the test should ask themselves, ‘What SAT date is right for me?’. Choosing a date that works best for you can be tricky as you need to find the right time that fits your schedule and allows you enough time to properly prepare. The first step in choosing your SAT date for 2023 or 2024 is to see the full list of options.

SAT Dates and Deadlines

The SAT is administered on Saturdays and in the fall there are additional tests offered. Sunday operates as an alternate day, giving those who can’t take the test on Saturdays due to religious or other reasons an additional opportunity. Each test day has other dates attached to it, such as the deadlines for registration, the late registration deadline, and the date on which the scores will be released online.

Here is a more detailed breakdown of the SAT dates for 2023 and 2024, with all relevant dates. It is important to note that any DATE you see with an asterisk (*) is a projection and is yet to be confirmed by The College Board.

SAT Dates 2023-2024: How To Choose

As the information laid out above shows, there is no shortage of SAT days and when you find yourself thinking, ‘Which SAT day should I choose?’ you may want to consider a few things.

Firstly, note that there are more SAT dates in the late summer and fall each year. This is to align with the majority of college application deadlines that will begin in late fall and early winter. This plays into the hands of seniors who can choose from multiple testing opportunities before they need to prepare for vital application submissions.

The only other time of year that there is a cluster of test days close together is in May and June, done to accommodate younger students looking to finish earlier for summer. However, the idea of taking back-to-back SATs is unappealing to most students and not recommended.

Overall, there is no need for too much strategic thinking when it comes to choosing an SAT date for 2023 or 2024. As long as you consider the fact that if you take them too close together you may not have enough time to properly prepare for the next available date, you should be fine. Apart from this, it’s simply a matter of progressing in class and in your tutoring sessions, and choosing a date that is close enough to keep you motivated but far enough away so that you can prepare optimally.
